Hygge at Home

"Hygge" is a Danish concept that's not easily translated to English. Pronounced "hue-guh," hygge is an idea that encompasses the feeling of coziness and contentment. As hygge is such an integral component of Danish culture, it comes as no surprise that Denmark continues to be ranked as one of the happiest countries.

 Environment

Channel cornerstones of Danish interior design -  fluffy rugs, wollen blankets, plush cushions. If you don't have the proper setup for a roaring fire, light a few candles. Utilize organic elements, like wood and plants, to bring the outdoors into your home.

Lifestyle

Bundle up with your coziest blankets and help yourself to a hot coffee or tea. Don't deprive yourself - if you're in the mood, get yourself a sweet treat. Better yet, bake it. Unplug from your phone for an hour or two and try picking up a book or magazine you've been meaning to get around to reading.

Attitude

What hygge really boils down to is simplicity and being present. Find the things you value in life and minimize what you do not. Slow down and savor the contentment from little things.
